Day of Your Visit

  • Surgery – Arrive at least 1.5 hours before your scheduled procedure time unless directed otherwise.
  • Dress comfortably and wear clothing that will allow you to change into a gown easily.
  • Bring with you on the day of surgery your Patient Information Form, insurance card, payment obligation, and driver’s license or photo I.D, and Living Will/Advance Directive, if you have one. LEAVE ALL OTHER VALUABLES, INCLUDING JEWELRY, WALLET AND ADDITIONAL CASH AT HOME. We are not responsible for damaged or lost property.
  • Dental appliances can be left in place. These items will be removed and placed in a protective storage container prior to your procedure.
  • Contact lenses may not be worn. Please bring lens case and glasses.
  • Children may bring a favorite toy or blanket.
  • Feel free to bring a book, headphones, or your laptop to use in the event there is a delay.
  • Remove all make-up, false eyelashes, and fingernail polish. If you have sculptured nails that are clear, you may leave the polish on.
  • Remove all body jewelry.
  • Make a list of your current medications and bring it with you. The list should include the medication’s name, dosage, frequency and the last dose taken. Multivitamins, herbal products and other over-the-counter medications should be included on the list.
  • Be prepared to sign a form giving your consent for the procedure. If the patient is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the patient and sign the consent form. If the patient is not able to sign legal documents, then someone with a Durable Power of Attorney should be present. If parents are divorced, the accompanying parent must have legal documents demonstrating their right to consent for the underage child.
  • When you arrive at the center your chart is already prepared using information provided by your physician. We will ask you to review the information to ensure accuracy. All charges incurred at the Surgical Pavilion are your responsibility; however, the Center will be happy to bill your insurance company as a courtesy to you. You will be asked to provide your insurance card, driver’s license or photo I.D., list of medications, and payment obligation.
  • A pre-op nurse will then take you into the pre-op area to review your medical history, medications, and allergies. The nurse will then have you change into a patient gown where your vital signs will then be taken and an IV started.
  • Your procedure may require sedation. Because we care about your safety, if you had any sedation we cannot allow you to drive home.
  • Your family should wait in the lobby until you are brought to the discharge area. Your physician will speak with your family or the person accompanying you following your procedure. Your family may stay with you until discharge.
